The sums
The average full-time worker in Sweden earns SEK 557,053 a year before tax and takes home SEK 430,932 after income tax and social security contributions (OECD, 2025, a single worker without children). Divided by 2,080 working hours, an hour of work pays SEK 207.18.
An iPhone 18 Pro: SEK 16,495 ÷ SEK 207.18 = 80 hours. The first two weeks of January.
A Tesla Model Y: SEK 490,810 ÷ SEK 207.18 = 2,369 hours. A whole working year, and the next until late February.
A Big Mac: SEK 69 ÷ SEK 207.18 = 0.33 hours, or 20 minutes.
